According to Martin Cornes, Co-director, "This industry will take off rapidly in the next 2-3 years and we anticipate our turnover will be about half a million pounds within 18 months.
A wind turbine can cost about £47,000, but the average saving on electricity bills is £8,700 per annum. For dairy farmers with bills of up to £25,000 a year the savings are far greater.
It is a long term investment but for businesses the return is as little as five years.
Learning points
- Grants are available to help small businesses reduce their carbon footprint.
- This April standardised feed-in tariffs will be introduced (the payback to domestic and commercial users who generate power to sell back to suppliers) so renewable energy is set to become even more attractive.
