Business in the Community
'Mobilising business for good - it's never been more important'
Business in the Community (BITC) is the UK's largest and one of the oldest national business-led coalitions dedicated to corporate responsibility. By developing innovative and challenging way to be a catalyst for change, they motivate companies to integrate responsible business practice which in turn has a positive impact on society.
The organisation was initially dedicated to regenerating local economies across the UK through charitable contributions. These aims then widened to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and became concerned with integrating sustainability into members' core business strategies.
BITC now has over 800 members, with 1 in 5 of the UK private sector workforce employed by a member company, alongside a network of over 120 global partners. Their members, working individually or collaboratively, are an essential part of tackling key social issues in deprived communities. They help to achieve the maximum impact possible on a local, national and international level.
Corporate responsibility is more important than ever. With the G20 protests and global recession as a back drop, they are now working with businesses to rebuild public trust.
BITC are actively involved in the SWM Business Futures Steering Group. We have also joined together, along with the Midlands Environmental Business Company, and Advantage West Midlands to run the West Midlands Low Carbon Economy Awards 2010. These awards offer businesses, organisations or community action the chance to gain recognition for their low carbon initiatives, inspiring others to take action.
Gain recognition for cutting CO2 and tell the West Midlands what you're doing.
