Challenging convention and exploring new models

Purpose of the presentation

The purpose of this presentation was to discuss lessons from credit crunch and how to develop a process template for analysis crunches.  It also explored models for managing risk, exploiting new opportunities and what it will take to build resilience.

Relevance to the region

The Business Council for Sustainable Development - United Kingdom (BCSD-UK) is the only affiliated branch in the UK of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). It is a nationally operating, multi-sectored business network focussed on the practical implementation of sustainable development values and business opportunity arising as society moves towards a low carbon economy.

The credit crunch affects businesses throughout the West Midlands.  This presentation puts forward a 5-step template for business, developed by the BCSD-UK, which was tested with business practitioners in a one-day workshop in February 2009. This provides a benchmark for use by companies seeking to strengthen their risk management capability and identify new opportunities and directions for their business operations.

This presentation improved the understanding of links across sustainable development trends and issue, gave insight into system opportunities and set out to drive transformation of businesses within the region.

What SWM liked

We like that this presentation addresses the very important issue of the credit crunch by explaining how businesses across the region can learn to become more resilient.
