Delivering the climate change challenge through planning and development

'Delivering the climate change challenge through planning and development’ took place on 21 February 2006. Over 50 delegates from a range of housing, planning and development backgrounds came together to consider aaWS-KFcott311ways in which barriers to more widespread use of sustainable energy best practice in housing could be overcome, and discuss the way in which adaptation to a changing climate should be built into all new building decision making processes in the region.

The event was Chaired by Martin Willey (FRTPI, FCIS) of YTP – Strategic Regeneration and Partnership Consultants, and hosted by RENEW North Staffs – one of two government funded Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder Areas within the West Midlands.

Outputs from workshops on the 21 February

Delegates at the Delivering the climate change challenge morning workshops identified key outputs they felt should steer the activities of Sustainability West Midlands and other key partners in 2006-2007. These outputs were turned into recommendations by the SHAP steering group and are published in the SHAP Final Report.

Sustainability West Midlands also announced that from April 2006, they would be developing the role of the SWM Climate Change Partnership into one that incorporates climate change adaptation and mitigation activities.
