The event

is head of the University of Oxford’s Climate Research Programme and lead contributing author of the recently published IPCC Special Report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. We’re thrilled that he will provide the keynote at our conference, offering his synthesis of the report and opportunities for action. Our theme The modern Industrial Strategy set out the Government’s ambition to increase productivity and earning power across the country. Local Industrial Strategies (LIS) are intended to deepen partnerships and establish new ways of working between national and local government, and the public and private sectors. The Government published their Policy Prospectus in October, setting out the objectives, policy rationale and approach to developing LIS in partnership with places. The West Midlands Combined Authority will be one of the first areas in the country to deliver its own Local Industrial Strategy by March 2019. A progress statement was issued by Government in October and consultation on the strategy is open until the 08 November. Worcestershire, the Marches and Stoke and Staffordshire LEPs will produce their LIS for agreement with Government by early 2020. Our Annual Conference will provide an opportunity to hear from the WMCA and all other West Midlands LEPs on the how their LIS will drive continued business growth and productivity improvements, in a way that ensures all our residents and communities feel the benefits. Michael Gallagher, Regional Energy Projects Manager at the newly established Midlands Energy Hub, will present on their future priorities to deliver energy related projects across the region. Workshops will include an opportunity for stakeholders to shape the delivery of sector action plans and scale up existing good practice across the region. They will be a chance to help Worcestershire, the Marches and Stoke and Staffordshire LEPs develop their LIS and highlight the benefits of partnerships and collaboration.
