Our Team > James Willcox
James is Head of Sustainability for Willmott Dixon Midlands and joined the company in 2014, having previously worked for Interserve Strategic Projects in Birmingham. He leads the team that provides support and advice to the business and its stakeholders across all aspects of sustainable development.
After graduating with a BSc in Planning and Residential Development from Nottingham Trent, he joined Lovell partnerships and progressed to a design role in their new build housing team. This resulted in working on a partnership with Nottingham University and Tarmac Building Products to develop a zero carbon housing project, sparking his interest in sustainable construction.
Since then his areas of knowledge and responsibilities have grown to include environmental compliance and social value, with more than 10 years of experience delivering this for partners across the Midlands. His keen interest in building physics remains, having been a level 5 accredited thermal modeller and gaining an MSc in Building Energy and Sustainable Design, putting these skills into use on Willmott Dixons national performance gap management task group.
James is part of the 2019 UKGBC Future Leaders programme and an advocate of promoting personal and professional development, finding the leadership and mentoring aspects of his role hugely rewarding. He is also passionate about promoting construction to young people, recognising their value to the future of the construction industry and seeking to promote this within his own team and in the social value delivery of the business.
Outside of his professional career, James is a keen cyclist and lover of the outdoors.
