Sandwell is a large, multicultural metropolitan borough situated in the heart of the Black Country, to the west of Birmingham, within the West Midlands conurbation and with a population of over 308,000.
The Council is the largest employer in the borough with approximately 10,600 employees in a variety of occupations providing a comprehensive range of services. Employees are based in a number of locations ranging from Sandwell Council House in Oldbury, satellite offices, libraries, depots and schools.
“Sandwell Council recognises the impact that climate change and air pollution have on human health, ecosystems, biodiversity and the wider economy. Therefore, it is a priority area for Sandwell Council.”
Sandwell Council is currently preparing a Climate Change and Clean Air strategy that will contain an action plan to help to minimise the emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollution from human activity in Sandwell. The Council has in the past helped to address such problems through liaising with local businesses in relation to aspects of environmental management and currently with respect to sustainable travel initiatives and energy supply.
