Our Members > Southern Staffordshire Community Energy

Southern Staffordshire Community Energy (SSCE) Limited is a community benefit society (BenCom), a type of registered society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. It is similar to a co-operative in many ways, except a BenCom is set up mainly to benefit the community rather than, as with a co-operative, its members.

As a BenCom, our aim is to work for the long-term benefit of communities in Staffordshire by investing in renewable energy projects and energy-saving schemes. SSCE has two community owned photovoltaic systems that were installed in December 2011 in Whittington (St Giles Hospice and Whittington Village Hall) and also manage The Community Fund, providing grants to local communities throughout Staffordshire.

As a third-sector non-profit organisation born from a desire to reduce carbon emissions and benefit the community, environmentally sustainable businesses and communities and a just society are objectives close to our heart, which is completely in line with SWM.
