Anna Bright

Profile

I have worked at Sustainability West Midlands for the past 13 years and as Chief Executive since 2016, leading an independent, purpose-driven organisation that works with over 200 cross-sector members to accelerate sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

As Chief Executive, I provide strategic leadership for governance, organisational development, financial sustainability and business planning, while overseeing a diverse portfolio of income generated through membership, consultancy, grant funding, sponsorship and events. This has given me extensive experience of building financially resilient, mission-led organisations that balance commercial sustainability with public benefit. I have also championed equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the organisation and its partnerships, recognising that inclusive leadership is fundamental to delivering meaningful impact.

A significant part of my role is bringing together organisations from across government, business, academia, the NHS, local authorities and civil society to develop shared solutions to complex challenges.

Alongside my executive responsibilities, I have developed extensive governance experience through serving as a Trustee of Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust for the maximum term of six years, where I helped provide strategic direction, ensure strong governance and financial stewardship, support executive recruitment, oversee people and equality matters, and contribute to the long-term success of the charity.

I also serve on a range of strategic boards and advisory groups, including the Midlands Green Growth Board, Midlands Net Zero Hub Board, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce Council and Innovation Alliance for the West Midlands Steering Group.

Earlier in my career I worked in environmental consultancy and the utilities sector, developing strong commercial, technical and stakeholder engagement skills while working with government, regulators, local authorities and major businesses. Together, these experiences have enabled me to understand the perspectives of organisations across sectors and to build trusted relationships that deliver collective impact.

I have a post graduate diploma in Water and Environmental Management from the University of Bristol and completed my undergraduate studies in Environmental Biogeoscience at the University of Leeds.

Outside work I am mom to two energetic young men and love cycling, live music, and holidays!
