The event
SWM member Fit for the Future Network is offering an exciting opportunity to see the retrofit and energy efficiency measures at the spectacular twelfth Century Stirling Castle plus a behind-the-scenes tour of the restoration of the derelict Engine Shed, Scotland’s first dedicated building conservation centre, which will showcase sustainable approaches to construction. The site visit will include:
- A focus on the challenges of retrofitting heritage buildings, best practice and lessons learnt
- Insight on how to embed sustainability within a capital renovation project
- A tour of the new technologies in place at Stirling Castle and Argyll’s lodgings, a 17th Century townhouse including:
- Secondary glazing improvements
- Heating network upgrade and demo of their BMS
- Introduction of sustainable insulation into roof spaces
- Changeover to LEDs throughout
- Pilot scheme to introduce recycling bins at the visitor sites
- Tour of the Engine Shed renovation project, a former railway building being transformed into a world-leading research and learning hub for building conservation – sustainability is being incorporated into the design throughout
- Lunch, refreshments and plenty of time for networking
Members of Fit for the Future Network from across the UK, specifically, those who are retrofitting and making energy efficiency improvements to heritage buildings. Practitioners managing renovation or conservation projects should also attend.

Cancellation Policy: This event is free however there will be a cancellation fee of £60 for those that cancel within ten days of booking. This is so that others who may be on the waiting list have the opportunity to attend. Members can find a replacement within their organisation.
