The event
Air pollution is a serious threat to human health. The UK burden of particulate matter (PM) is determined to be equivalent to nearly 29,000 deaths annually and an associated loss of 340,000 population life years (COMEAP 2010). Department of Health figures suggest air pollution may be the fifth most likely cause of death, ahead of communicable diseases, passive smoking, alcohol abuse, road accidents and suicide. This event aims to:
- Describe latest evidence about the health burden from air pollution
- Share best practice interventions to reduce emissions / exposure
- Discuss the priority air pollution takes
- Support local public health leadership
This event will be particularly relevant for Directors of Public Health, elected members, CCGs, Heath and Wellbeing Teams, local authority planners and environmental health officers.
