The event itself

Birmingham has big ambitions to use the low-carbon agenda to reassert its position as one of the UK’s most dynamic and future looking cities.

Through initiatives and projects such as Birmingham Energy Savers, Centro’s plans around the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, High Speed 2 and the redevelopment of New Street, the city is already starting to make great progress. The potential to create a foundation that underpins Birmingham’s exciting future is much greater.

Base Birmingham, by acting as a bridge between the public and private sectors, sets out to identify the business opportunities and act as a catalyst to build a better Birmingham.

Keynote speakers lined up include:

  • Greg Barker MP, Minister for Energy and Climate Change
  • Doug Oakervee, chairman of HS2
  • Geoff Inskip, chief executive of Centro
  • SWM board member Cllr James McKay, Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet Member for Smart, Green and Cafe City
  • Ken Livingstone, former Mayor of London

These keynote sessions will combine with workshops about delivery designed to drill down into the what, when and ‘how much’ of areas such as decentralised energy generation and distribution, heat networks, transport, improving the energy efficiency of homes and offices, waste as a resouce and design for resource efficiency.
