Join the CIWEM West Midlands branch for a talk about incorporating green infrastructure into urban design and retrofitting. Following the lecture, we will have our annual social visit the German Christmas market in Birmingham. Our urban environment can create challenges for water management, air quality and ecological diversity. Retrofitting and designing features such as a green roof, sustainable drainage systems and green infrastructure into new development and infrastructure projects can help to green the grey. Maggie Fennell, market development manager at Boningale Greensky, set up a green roof department for the Boningale nurseries in partnership with the University of Sheffield Green Roof Centre. Her talk will focus on how we can incorporate more planting into national infrastructure to better harness ecosystem services like water management. Topics covered include:- How inspirational horticultural developments can provide new ideas for SUDS
- Barriers and how to overcome them
- How to make the most of benefits of natural capital assets, looking at the wider range of ecosystem services and how they are interconnected
