Target audience
This event is available free of charge to Local Authority Officers and Elected Members from across the West Midlands.
The event itself
The session aims to increase understanding of low carbon and sustainable design and construction techniques and related planning issues, covering topics such as:
- Low carbon building design hierarchy.
- Design elements – site and orientation, thermal mass, ventilation, lighting etc.
- Codes and Standards – Part L, BREEAM, Code for Sustainable Homes.
- Costs and economic viability.
- Design for climate change adaptation.
- The Passivhaus concept
- Retrofit and restoration of buildings.
- Case studies of local planning for low carbon design and construction.
Site visit
This session includes a site visit to Sampson Close Passivhaus, Coventry.
This is an excellent example of Passivhaus housing development by Orbit Housing. The addres is the Naked House, 40 Sampson Close, Coventry, CV2 1RB.
The visit will take place following the in-depth session on Low Carbon and Sustainable Design and Construction Techniques being held at The Lord Mayor’s Hospitality Suite, Council House, Earl Street, Coventry, CV1 5RR. A maximum of 8 people are permitted on the site visit at any one time. Two tours will be provided, one at 2pm and one at 3pm.
This site visit is only open to those attending the in-depth session. If you would like to attend the visit you need to email stephen.owen@ursusconsulting.co.uk to confirm whether you wish to go on the 2pm or 3pm tour (places will allocated on a first come first served basis). People will be asked to share lifts from the in-depth event at the Council House, or make their own way to Sampson Close.
