09 December 2021
Innovate UK Edge
Interested in hearing what funding there will be from the Government for innovation over the next few years? Curious about the decisions that have come out of COP? Intrigued by renewable energy and net-zero?
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, was hosted in Glasgow between 31st October and 12th November this year. At the conference, the UK, together with other governments, has set out plans to meet ambitious 2030 emissions reductions targets that align with reaching net zero by the middle of the century.
All sectors of the economy will have to reduce their carbon emissions in line with these targets, requiring vast innovation across a range of sectors, from energy and transport to finance and more.
This webinar will outline the Government’s key areas of focus following COP26, how these will affect innovative businesses in the West Midlands and feature insights from local organisations on how they have taken advantage of opportunities arising from the transition to net-zero.
A report commissioned by BEIS states that decarbonising the UK domestic economy by 80% from 1990 levels – as the government has committed to doing – could add a further 299,000 jobs and £27bn of GVA by 2050. Exports could add a further £26bn and 208,000 jobs across the country. Attend this webinar to explore whether your business could take advantage of opportunities associated with COP26 and the transition to net-zero.
What will be covered:
- Outcomes of COP, Will Hargreaves (Policy Advisor at the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce)
- Opportunities available in the move to net-zero and with renewable energy, Martin Freer (Director of Birmingham Energy Institute, Tyseley Energy Park)
- Case study on an innovative business that recently broke into the industry
