The Keele Deal Health & Sustainability forum aims to:
- Showcase existing sustainability best practices
- Explore challenges within healthcare systems
- Foster collaborative opportunities across health and sustainability field
The Keele Deal Health & Sustainability forum, a collaboration between Keele University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Institute for Sustainable Futures, will bring together Keele academic staff and local partners working across health and sustainability fields to explore sustainability & health links, learn from good practice examples, and create new collaborative opportunities to tackle a range of interrelated health and sustainability-related challenges.
Keele Deal Health was established in 2019 and represents a commitment between Keele University and local healthcare partners to address the region’s health and care priorities. The NHS aims to be the world’s first net zero national health service, requiring sustainability to be addressed within every part of the health service from the estate, transport and food to medical interventions, health care approaches and supply chains. Sustainability issues also have a strong impact on health outcomes, and the connections between human and animal health and the environment are multidirectional and interconnected, including impacts of climate change and habitat loss on disease transmission, environmental pollution from medicines, and antimicrobial resistance, while health inequalities also abound. Solutions to a more sustainable healthcare system therefore need to involve multiple and diverse partners to solve complex problems in creative ways such as improving our digital capabilities and wearable health technologies.
The programme will bring together speakers from across the local area to explore sustainability-related health challenges, sustainability in alternative healthcare approaches, and approaches to tackling the GreenerNHS goals, as well as opportunities to pitch and develop ideas for collaboration.
