The Event

The UK is now one of the most nature depleted countries in the world and we know that our natural resources play a key role in supporting our economy, improving the health and wellbeing of our communities and increasing our resilience to changes that are already happening to our climate.

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has been appointed by the government to work with the people of the West Midlands to develop a regional Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) which will:

  • Agree priorities for nature’s recovery.
  • Map the most valuable existing areas for nature.
  • Map specific proposals for creating or improving habitat for nature and wider environmental goals (adopting Nature Based Solutions).

Further explanation of the LNRS can be found here in this short video.

It is now a key time for you to play a part in shaping the LNRS and how we can move forward to create a strategy for nature recovery and making the West Midlands a greener and more resilient place for all.

WMCA are therefore inviting you to share your views at an online workshop where they will listen to what your priorities are and how these could be delivered.

Please find a little time to join the WMCA for this online workshop to help shape a greener West Midlands.

Please do share with relevant colleagues and connections as you see appropriate.

This LNRS will cover the following areas:

  • Birmingham City Council;
  • Coventry City Council;
  • Dudley Borough Council;
  • Sandwell Borough Council;
  • Solihull Borough Council;
  • Walsall Borough Council; and
  • Wolverhampton City Council.
