The Event

The Secret of Successful Parks Partnerships

When people come together to look after their open space, it can become a more inclusive space; creating a shared vision which can aid decision making, maximise resources and help lobby for change and improvement.

The Forum’s 2022 conference will bring together expertise from government, academics, and case studies from local authorities and trusts to explore the principles of creating successful civic enterprise and partnership models, and how these can support creating a space (placemaking) and ensure its longevity (placekeeping).

Speakers will present civic enterprise, alliance and partnership models, exploring the skill base, financial capital, communication and commitment required, and how to progress from individual collaborations into high-capacity green space partnerships, placing communities and the natural environment at the heart of decision making.

The workshops will enable delegates to develop their own skills in identifying and developing partnership agreements; evaluating existing partnerships and exploring why they are critical for social, economic and environmental development.

Speakers:

  • Rachel Fisher, Deputy Director, Land Use Policy, DEFRA.
  • Dr Nicola Dempsey, Senior Lecturer/Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Sheffield.
  • Nick Grayson, Green City Manager, Birmingham City Council.
  • Tony Stringwell, Deputy Chief Officer, Parks and Countryside, Leeds City Council.
