Target audience
Come and hear about the University of Warwick’s award-winning Green Travel Plan. Warwick won a highly commended in Business in the Community’s 2010 Regional Excellence Award for Sustainable Travel and this event is designed to share their best practice with other practitioners.
The event itself
Warwick is one of the UK’s leading universities. Its semi-rural location means the car is the favoured mode of transport for travelling to and from the campus.
The university is set to expand by up to 40% in the future, so a successful sustainable transport strategy and Green Travel Plan is critical to its future success.
Warwick has already introduced a range of sustainable transport initiatives during the last five years, which have delivered significant financial and reputational benefits for the university. These include:-
- A formal car share scheme called ‘WarwickShare’
- A car share scheme for students called ‘Take-a-mate’
- Cycling infrastructure improvements
- Replacing fleet vehicles with low carbon vehicles
- Piloting a park & ride scheme for university open days
- Introducing alternative-fuelled vehicles
The event will include an opportunity to tour the site and see a selection of these initiatives.
