Built Environment Climate Change Innovations (BECCI)The event
With the new ECO 3 funding for retrofit in housing launching in September, this workshop provides access to state of the art software to design and evaluate cost effective wall insulation (IWI and EWI) systems for solid wall properties. Why do we need to retrofit solid wall buildings?
The English Housing Survey 2010 suggests that 880 thousand dwellings in the West Midlands do not have cavity walls. The UK has committed to reducing energy use by 80% by 2050. This means we should be retrofitting these houses at the rate of 1 house every minute! However, it is well known that retrofitting solid wall buildings can cause interstitial condensation risks.
How can WUFI software help?
The German Fraunhofer Institute has developed simulation software that uses actual location, weather and material data to dynamically simulate energy and water flows in a building. The software is increasingly being used by building professionals to mitigate these risks.
The Workshop
Retrofit theory and examples with best and worst practice highlighted will be followed by a group hands on design exercise provided by whg Housing Association. Delegates using the lateat hygro thermal software and our resident QS propose solutions that will be presented to the Housing Association.
Business benefits:
- Links with key Housing Association contacts
- Networking with local architects, specifiers, installers and suppliers
- Free copy of the WUFI software
- Take away a completed software model of a building you have worked on
- Report with a summary of your design and costings
