The Event
Clean Futures, led by Coventry University, are delivering this fast-paced, interactive masterclass in collaboration with SWM as part of their Clean Futures Catalyst collection. This masterclass covers sustainable procurement, what it is?, and how it benefits businesses.
This masterclass will be delivered by SWM Chief Executive Anna Bright and SWM Associate Andy Whyle.
Sustainable procurement means considering environmental, social and governance (ESG) elements when buying products or services. This can include buying locally, from suppliers that demonstrate positive sustainability credentials, sourcing products with minimal packaging that can be easily reused or recycled, and buying from organisations that can demonstrate ethical practices. This can have a direct impact on Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
This event will cover:
What is sustainable procurement? The basics, key terms and language
Sustainability frameworks and policy at global, national and local level and standards such as ISO 20400:2017
Key focus areas including:
- The lifecycle approach
- Supplier selection and evaluation
- Collaboration and Capacity Building
- Inspiring case studies from local businesses
- Your needs: Group discussion on challenges of sustainable procurement and support required
- Where to go for help and support
You’ll leave this masterclass with an appreciation of the ways that procurement can be a powerful instrument for businesses wanting to behave in a more sustainable way and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating sustainability in procurement policies and practices organisations can manage risks for sustainable environmental, social and economic development and help to drive innovation.
The Clean Futures initiative enables West Midlands businesses in the transport sector to adopt and develop sustainable technologies and practices through essential knowledge and guidance for growth and prosperity.
To be eligible for this event you must be an SME falling into the WMCA area from the transport sector and its supply chain. Space permitting, organisations from the UK are welcome.
