The event
The West Midlands Combined Authority is the new governance structure being initiated for the West Midlands by the seven Metropolitan Authorities: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton. The West Midlands Combined Authority promises to regain our region’s heritage as ‘Britain’s engine for growth’ but how will its plans affect economic development, social issues and the environment? Our annual conference will bring together business and community leaders to take a closer look at the new authority’s priorities and the crucial role of a sustainability agenda in ensuring lasting and inclusive prosperity across the region. In this consultation period before the launch of the new combined authority in April 2016, the conference provides a much-needed forum for open discussion. It is an opportunity to work together, to ‘think big’ and to make bold propositions for sustainable development in the West Midlands. We’ll hear from Jonathan Porritt, the inspirational writer, commentator, author and co-founder of the sustainability development think tank Forum for the Future, and from an expert panel of senior people from influential organisations in the Midlands, in the public, private and third sectors. We want to hear from you too. Join us to discuss the issues and help shape the sustainability agenda for the future of our region.
