Target Audience

This site visit is appropriate for anyone with an interest in how to prepare for the future impacts of climate change from either a business, local authority or community  group.

The event itself

You are invited to join Sustainability West Midlands and the West Midlands Climate Adaptation Partnership on a site visit of the UK Flood Barriers facility. As part of our current work raising awareness of ways in which organisations can prepare for the future impacts of climate change, this site visit will demonstrate how businesses are investing in flood defence systems as part of their business continuity planning activities.

The development of intelligent flood risk management and sustainable flood defence products is crucial to providing solutions to the environmental challenges society faces. Through forming strategic partnerships, and sharing our knowledge into flood defences, optimal solutions can be made available to all.

This site visit will take place on Thursday 22 November at the UK Flood Barriers site, in Droitwich, Worcestershire. Registration is at 1.30pm and the visit will conclude at 4pm. Droitwich Spa train station is close by and there is free parking available in the public car park opposite the UK Flood Barriers building. There is a map attached to this email.

This visit will showcase the unique British Standard Institute (BSI) approved testing facility and will simulate flood conditions and demonstrate:

  • how water can ingress into a property
  • what flood mitigation measures are available to prevent this

During an interactive session UK Flood Barriers will share their current thinking on the impacts of the legislative and planning process in relation to flood defence and their thoughts on how we can future proof ourselves through on-going innovation and new product development.
