The event itself
Resources are under pressure. More people, more consumers, climate change and other factors are increasing the strain on the planet’s natural assets.
The UK Government is responding to a United Nations led action. New, annual, natural asset corporate reporting may become mandatory. Accountants may be the audit compilers. Major businesses will incorporate their supply chains in their responses. So small-medium enterprises (SMEs) will not escape. Tax on the use of stressed natural resources is possible. An international framework agreement is to be sought at the international environmental summit in Rio in mid-June.
So please join this BCSD-UK workshop to discuss these issues and learn more about the challenges to business.
Guest speakers include:
- Richard Heathcote, Heineken UK: A business perspective. Why is this important? Why might it be a bigger impact than carbon?
- Gordon Hewitt, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants: The role of accountants. We future gaze on the potential situation post Rio.
- Video featuring James Griffiths, World Business Council: The WBCSD will play a major role at Rio 2012.
