The event
The purpose of the debate will be to review a number of important strategic policy developments in the West Midlands. The aim will be to explore not just how these various initiatives inter-relate but also their relationship to wider policy agendas, including the statutory planning system. The “Midlands Connect” project – the identification of key Transport Priorities across the wider Midlands in support of the ‘Midlands Engine Room’ proposal. Reference will also be made to the HS2 Connectivity Programme (i.e. part of the HS2 Growth Strategy). To be presented by Maria Machancoses (Director of Economic Development, West Midlands ITA). The WMITA Draft Strategic Transport Plan – “Movement for Growth” – recently published for consultation. To be presented by Jake Thrush (Transport Strategy Manager, West Midlands ITA). The West Midlands Combined Authority – proposals for which have recently been put forward in the context of the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill. To be presented by (speaker to be identified). SWM will also be updating on the progress of our futures work and using the feedback from the event to feed into our annual conference on the 19th October setting the sustainability priorities for the West Midlands Combined Authority
