Colmore BID

Colmore Business District is a business improvement district (BID) established to project manage improvements and services to the business quarter of Birmingham.

A BID is a defined geographical area within which local businesses collaborate to invest in projects, services and initiatives which improve the environment in which they work.

They have spent 15 years promoting, advocating and agitating for active travel to and from the District. They were a strong supporter as a principal consultee on the Clean Air Zone implementation. Also, they created, funded (and successfully grant supported) the Greening project: a detailed guide and toolkit for the greening of Colmore BID and Central BID areas.

Colmore BID is principally financed through a levy on the rateable value paid by a business. Its fourth five-year term commenced in April 2024 and one of its principal themes is working towards a more sustainable place.

On their membership with SWM, they say:

“As a highly networked BID we would wish to ensure that there is a cross-over of information and membership with SWM to ensure that we help our businesses are all equally focused on achieving net zero to 2050. The synergy between the two organisations, if harnessed well, via good communication channels, ought to be very effective and ambitious.”
