Coventry City Council is committed to sustainable development through its processes in which the Council continuously improves its services, policies and practices to contribute to a better quality of life for everyone now and for future generations.
The Council recognises that sustainable development considers the impact on our future, of the balance between environmental, economic and social issues of today’s activities, policies and new developments.
The Council has a key role to play in tackling climate change by reducing its carbon footprint from its own estate and the services it provides (‘mitigation’), and making sure that it is resilient to the impacts of climate change (‘adaptation’). They also have a community leadership role, in supporting organisations and individuals to reduce their emissions and adapt to the changing climate.
The Council is committed to tackling climate change and to making a major contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions for the city. The Climate Change Strategy recognises the challenge we all face, and the actions need to be taken for the well being of the city now and in the future.
SWM and the City Council have worked together for many years. We have convened many of our events at their offices and have offered them to speak at many of our events to share good practice.
Our primary contacts at the Council are Denise Osborne and Bret Willers.
