Bicycle shops and retailers have no direct methods for the disposal of scrap tyres and inner tubes through standard waste collection routes…

According to research this is approximately 10,000 tonnes of scrap bicycle tyres and inner tubes annually. Standard collection services will generally refuse to take them as they are considered complex waste. Legislation is coming into place to create a hierarchy of ecological collections meaning that the primary route to disposal will be recycling.

Velorim Offers a collection scheme (similar to standard waste collection schemes), to bicycle retailers of all sizes, on a subscription basis for the collection of bicycle tyres and inner tubes specifically. Velorim would provide either:

  • Cage pallet holding 120 tyres or
  • Collection bags holding 25 tyres to each shop and in addition
  • Boxes for the collection of inner tubes – holding around 160 or
  • For those larger clients, tube bins (2,000 tubes).

The service will be offered as a standard waste contract with the stores, initially for 36 months and then on a monthly rolling basis thereafter.

Our primary contact is Richard Lawrence, Director.
