SWM member A Good Thing are thrilled to announce they have recently been able to support a local charity need.
A Good Thing are thrilled to announce they have found a match for Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid.
The domestic abuse charity working in Birmingham and Solihull made the charity aware that they were in need of pampering items to run sessions with their service users.
The team at A Good Thing were delighted when the Co-Founder of The Charity Shop Gift Card, Lee Fellows, responded to this charity’s need. He donated £200 worth of gift cards to help them source the items via local charity shops.
The Charity:
Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid has provided support to victims of domestic violence and abuse in Birmingham and Solihull for over 40 years. The charity does this through the provision of a huge range of services, including:
- A confidential helpline
- Drop-in centres
- Accommodation
- Practical housing support and advice
- Outreach support
- Support with criminal proceedings
- Family support
- Training for professionals
- Awareness-raising among young people
- Training for corporates
- Advice for employers
The Project:
Women and children often arrive at a refuge with very few possessions of their own and are often experiencing poor mental health, trauma, low self-esteem, lack of confidence and depression.
Whilst living in the refuge, Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid offers both women and children a variety of fun sessions to stimulate them and ease their emotional distress.
By sourcing provisions from generous local organisations, the charity will be able to provide and facilitate sessions specifically targeted to address and improve the mental health and wellbeing of all women and children in the refuge.
The charity will be able to continue to empower women and children to become more independent and confident.
A Good Thing would like to give a huge thanks to The Charity Shop Gift Card for their generosity and for committing to send less to landfill and more to a good cause!
