Are you an SME in Shropshire or Telford & Wrekin seeking free environmental support?

Shropshire Council and Telford & Wrekin Council have come together to provide Cool Shropshire and Telford, an environmental support scheme for local micro businesses and SMEs.

Midlands based environmental consultancy E4environment Ltd provide the supply chain and stakeholder sustainability software that powers the scheme. The platform incorporates resources provided by the councils, plus tailored consultancy advice, to launch a tailored platform for small businesses.

Businesses in Shropshire will also receive support from Zero Carbon Shropshire, a local climate action charity.

Cool Shropshire and Telford is an online sustainability platform designed specifically for businesses operating in the region. It involves registering and completing a simple two-step process which aims to help businesses understand their environmental impact and set some goals to reduce it over the coming year. Although emphasis is placed on encouraging businesses to calculate and submit their carbon footprint, the scheme covers a range of environmental aspects (energy and water use, transport, procurement, nature and biodiversity etc) to ensure all positive actions are captured and opportunities identified.

There are various benefits for members. By completing the process, business owners can identify ways to become more energy and resource efficient.  This means companies can save money on bills, reduce supply chain risk, and move away from fossil fuels where possible. In addition, guidance is tailored to local businesses and will signpost to the relevant tools and support provided by Shropshire and Telford councils.

The scheme will launch in mid-May 2022 and will be open for new registrants until the end of April 2023. It is strongly recommended that businesses register within the first three months as there are only 500 spaces available in Shropshire, and another 500 in Telford and Wrekin.
