Birmingham’s Green Restaurant award winners announced

The Warehouse Cafe, based in Digbeth, were the overall winners of Birmingham’s Green Restaurant of the Year 2011. This award honours the restaurant that has excelled in all of the four categories detailed below, or shown exemplary commitment to sustainability and the environment. The Warehouse Cafe demonstrated a strong commitment to all forms of recycling; saving energy; supporting their staff and the community and buying seasonal, locally and ethically sourced produce.

Jono Smallwood, Adam Cooper, Robert Grzesik, Alex Claridge, Mirabel Foster were presented with their award (a bamboo chopping board decorated with
dried herbs) from Councillor Huxtable, Cabinet Member (Transport, Environment and Regeneration) at a ceremony held yesterday (Monday 6 June) at the Council House.

Highly Commended: ChangeKitchen CIC

Energy Reduction
Winner: Café Vite, ICC
Highly Commended: Aria Restaurant, Hyatt Hotel

Staff & Community
Winner: The Warehouse Café
Highly Commended: McDonald’s, Yardley Wood

Purchasing
Winner: Opus Restaurant
Highly Commended: VMF (Villa Midlands Food), Aston Villa FC
