Shropshire Wildlife Trust in collaboration with Business Environmental Support Scheme for Telford (BESST) and Meres and Mosses Business Environment Network (MMBEN) are seeking applications for the 2016 The Blue Business Award. The Blue Business Award sets out to recognise technical innovation and exemplary water resource management. Water is one of our most vital resources. Businesses use it daily, but failure to protect the water environment can result in legal and financial implications and above all affect the health of our water systems. Recent reports show that 75% of rivers across the UK failed to achieve good ecological status which has wide reaching implications for the environment and our economy. The Blue Business Award sets out to encourage businesses to think about how they can play an important role in protecting and conserving our local water environment and share best practice across the West Midlands. The Blue Business Award is a fantastic way to demonstrate your company’s active engagement to reducing water usage though using creative ways to recycle, reuse and ultimately reduce water run-off, which can contribute to flooding. Previous Blue Business Award winners have included Arriva West Midlands who utilised rainwater harvesting technology for their bus wash system, maintaining the cleanest fleet in the region and saving on water bills too! We are not only looking for quality solutions to reducing water usage in a variety of industries large and small, from a green roof to a water butt but also those businesses who go that extra mile to protect the water environment and preserve water quality. The award scheme is now open for 2016. Entrants are required to submit a short case study as detailed on the application form. Forms are available for download from the Shropshire Wildlife Trust website. Note that the closing date for applications is 28th October 2016. The winners will be announced at the BESST breakfast meeting on Tuesday 23rd November 2016 – all finalists will be invited to attend this event.
