On Tuesday 12 June, the winners of the West Midlands Regional Impact awards were announced, including the West Midlands Climate Business Resilience Award, which is sponsored by Sustainability West Midlands, in partnership with the West Midlands Climate Adaptation Partnership and the Environment Agency.
This is a new award category this year which looked at how businesses have taken steps to build business resilience and adapt to extreme weather and a changing climate for example flooding, drought, storms and heat waves. The award is the culmination of the first year of a programme of work delivered through the West Midlands Climate Adaptation Partnership to raise awareness of climate risk and opportunity with businesses across the region.
The winner of this award was Globehuggers Emergency Supplies. Following major flooding in the UK during 2007, Globehuggers saw a business opportunity and developed a range of kitted grab bags and flood kits to help other businesses to build their resilience to climate change and extreme weather. Their clients now include Olympic venues, government, Primary Care Trust and blue chip companies.
