Call for local businesses to submit Expressions of Interest for inclusion in a Photovoltaic Panels Supply Chain Directory

Stoke-on-Trent City Council have commenced a procurement process which is intended to install photovoltaic panels on to a minimum of 1000 Council dwellings, and potentially up to around 4000 further council dwellings, which are located in areas across the City.

This procurement process has been prepared around a concession type of arrangement where the successful bidder will provide the funding, install the solar panels and operate the installations for 25 years, in return for an income derived from the anticipated feed in tariff. The City Council will be paid an annual sum based on the value of the anticipated feed in tariff and the occupants will receive the electricity generated at nil cost.

The tendering phase of the procurement process will conclude on 22 November, with a view to letting a contract in early 2011, with delivery then phased over the following 12 to 36 months.

It is anticipated that this initiative will bring more than £35,000,000 of investment into the city and there are clearly opportunities for local businesses to play an active role and derive benefits, both during the installation phase and for the 25 years of the project.

Businesses across North Staffordshire will have a unique opportunity to promote themselves in a PV Solar Panel Supply Chain Directory 2011. The directory will be an important reference tool for the successful bidder to source local services, products and skills to deliver the provision, installation and maintenance of photovoltaic panels.

The Council will be interested to receive expressions of interest from local businesses which supplies and/or contracts in any of the following areas:

  • Manufacture and import of photovoltaic panels and control equipment
  • Manufacture and import of mechanical fixing systems
  • Scaffolding and roof access suppliers
  • Roof repair contractors
  • Electricians (with MCS accreditation)
  • General building contractors
  • Property surveyors
  • Data management providers
  • Health and Safety advisors
  • Electrical installation equipment suppliers
