This November saw the annual West Midlands social enterprise awards, run by SWM partner Social Enterprise West Midlands (SEWM), with SWM supporting the green social enterprise category. We were impressed with the high quality of the applicants from social enterprises seeking to deliver a business that delivered social value, but also a clear contribution to the environment as part of its product or operations. The winner was Gro-Organic Community Interest Company (CIC). We were impressed how this social enterprise was working in the North Solihull area using the reclaiming of green space for community use to help with education, skills, and health programmes and more ambitious plans on the way for a green academy. The highly commended included Change Kitchen CIC for how they have built in environmental considerations to their operations and product offering around training and catering. Also Oaken Palace Records who are developing a specialist music label which also raised awareness and funding for endangered species. Find out more about the full list of award winners on the SEWM website.
