Electric vehicle trial launch in Birmingham on 12 December 2009

Cllr Paul Tilsley, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council,  was amongst the keynote speakers at the launch of the first stage of a UK-wide electric vehicle trial in Birmingham on Saturday 12 December 2009.

Commenting on the launch, Cllr Tilsley said: “The handover of these vehicles marks a significant milestone in the development of electric vehicle technology.

“Here in Birmingham, the handover is particularly relevant given the fact the city council recently approved the Birmingham Declaration on climate change – which outlines our aim to procure only electric or LPG vehicles by 2015, a move that should help create a viable market for such technologies.

“It is also fitting that the cities of Birmingham and Coventry are at the forefront of this effort, given our rich history in relation to vehicle manufacturing. I hope that our willingness to embrace electric vehicles will place us in a good position to reap the environmental and economic benefits in due course.”
