High value of sustainability commitment during recession means companies are coping with the downturn better

The ‘Green winners: The performance of Sustainability-focused companies in the Financial crisis’ report published last year looked at 99 companies on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and/or the Goldman Sachs Sustain focus lists. The report found they were outperforming their industry peers by around 10% over three months and increasing to 15% over six months. This suggests that sustainability spending is essential to beat the recession and not an additional tool as many believe.
