Marches Energy Agency has over 21 years of experience in helping householders keep warm and well at home. We are an independent, Shropshire-based charity and offer a niche role in the health and housing landscape that is opening exciting opportunities with a wide range of partners, around health, social care, and climate change. As our service continues to develop, our small, friendly team is now seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate energy adviser to help us support more householders in need. Vulnerability is around age – both old and young – health and limited financial means, all of which can make keeping warm at home a challenge. There are still too many people living in these conditions. Your focus will be on undertaking home visits across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Staffordshire, where you will support householders to be warmer and more comfortable at home. Your help will vary, but will include providing advice and support around tariff switching, fuel debt advocacy, heating controls, energy bills, identifying and supporting householders to have energy efficiency measures fitted, and in maximising the benefit once fitted. You may also be required to fit low cost energy efficiency measures such as LED bulbs and draught proofing. Additionally, you can also expect to support householders on our telephone service too, depending on demand. Here, you will be required to support householders with unscripted, caller-led advice from our Shrewsbury office. On the job training and support will be provided to ensure that the advice and practical support you provide is the best it can be, and remains so. MEA will also pay for you to undertake a Level 3 NVQ in energy awareness, to help prepare you for your new role. You will also be expected to undergo a basic DBS check. For the right person there will also be scope to develop the role to potentially include the delivery of training for other organisations and attending and/ or running community events.
