The IEMA has released a primer- ‘The Environment Bill: Background, content and passage through the UK Parliament’ which provides an overview of the key elements of the bill from the environmental governance gap arising from Brexit, to awaiting Royal Assent by the end of 2020. In part, the proposals seek to fill the governance gap as the UK leaves the EU, however; measures are also included to tackle significant environmental challenges including the plastics crisis, biodiversity loss and air pollution. Survey
They have also released a survey aimed to gather views and ideas about how to set successful environmental targets under the Environment Bill and to share this with the government.
- It is particularly aimed at those who will be involved in helping to meet the targets, whether in business, professions, local authorities, environmental groups, government bodies or more widely in the community.

The IEMA, in partnership with the Broadway Initiative and The Aldersgate Group are running a digital conference on 23rd September where the results will be discussed. SWM are on the steering group of the ‘Broadway Initiative’, ensuring that regional perspectives are taken into account when shaping local delivery frameworks for climate and environmental goals’.
