Job Opportunity: CEO Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and Black Country

Location: Birmingham Salary: £51,250 with potential to £55,000 plus pension Closing Date: Thursday 04 July 2019 The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and Black Country arose in 1980. In a conurbation with 2 million inhabitants and many large and small pre and post industrial wildlife sites beloved of local people, it was a pioneer in urban nature conservation and the first Metropolitan Wildlife Trust. With 7,500 members, 1,885 volunteers, 19 staff, a strong financial position, and a robust business plan, the Trust is committed to  leading the achievement of Wildlife Trusts’ objectives in it’s urban context. We are looking for an inspirational leader to join us as Chief Executive. You will play a leading role as advocate and spokesperson for nature across the West Midlands and will use the Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country’s assets, programmes and campaigns to catalyse the next generation of leaders. You will have an empathic understanding of how policies potentially affecting the natural environment are created and decisions taken in a regional context, and will be able to nurture and grow the cross-sector, cross-region networks that enable nature and wildlife to be present in those decisions. Knowledge of the environmental policy landscape, as well as an understanding of practical land management applicable to Birmingham and the Black Country is paramount – as is the ability to make things happen. You will have a proven track record of successful leadership and management at a senior level coupled with the ability to get the very best from a motivated team of staff and volunteers. A natural and charismatic communicator, you will have the diplomacy skills needed to engage and influence diverse audiences and lead a membership organisation.  You should also have experience of generating substantial income, ideally in the not for profit sector, along with a track record of strategic planning and initiating projects. If you are passionate about nature and are inspired to create a wilder future for Birmingham and the Black Country’s wildlife and people, we’d love to hear from you.
