Birmingham City University have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Manager to join their dynamic and growing team.
About the job:
The Energy Manager is responsible for developing and delivering the University’s approach to utility, energy, and carbon management. The role is at the heart of a net zero carbon target delivery, supporting their Environmental Plan, which is a key strategic priority for the University.
The role will suit an experienced manager who will be responsible for managing an Energy and Data Officer, a multi-million-pound utilities budget, and the development and delivery of their net zero carbon strategy.
You will report to the Environmental Manager and will work with colleagues across the University’s professional service departments and faculties, building relationships with partners and key stakeholders.

Main responsibilities:
The Energy Manager will:
- Lead on the development and delivery of the University’s net zero carbon strategy.
- Lead on utilities management and carbon emissions reduction activity across sites, conducting energy audits and desktop data analysis, and developing and delivering carbon reduction projects.
- Communicate complex data through reports and to inform decision making regarding utilities, energy, and carbon, providing technical advice to a variety of stakeholders.
- Manage the Energy and Data Officer.
- Lead on energy and carbon legislative compliance and procurement matters.
- Manage relationships with utility suppliers.
Key requirements:
The successful candidate will have:
- An energy engineering/environmental management related degree or other appropriate higher-level qualification in a relevant subject or have relevant experience in a similar role in a large organisation.
- Professional membership of the Energy Institute, CIBSE or another recognised body.
- Experience of carbon management and delivering carbon/energy improvements in a large organisation.
- Be highly numerate with excellent IT skills.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, working as part of a team and autonomously.
- Experience of conducting procurements and writing business cases, reports, and funding bids.
- Ability to think strategically and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
