Job Opportunity: Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC) independent members – Apply by 27/11/22
From the Environment Agency careers website:
Do you value diversity and want to represent the views of your community in how we manage flooding and coastal erosion?
Do you want to make a real difference to people’s lives, livelihoods and to the environment we all live in?
Do you want to influence how money is spent managing flooding or coastal erosion in your community?
If you do, then we want to hear from you. We’re looking for new independent members to join our Regional Flood and Coastal Committees around the country. Applications are open now for roles starting in 2023.
It’s really important to us that RFCC members represent the true diversity of the communities we work with. We know that a diverse work force increases productivity, innovation, and employee satisfaction.
Here is Julie Foley from the Environment Agency talking about how important these roles are:
RFCCs have a vital role influencing local priorities for flood risk management. They:
Approve the programmes of work that help better protect the homes and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people across the country
Help create local partnerships to pay for, build and manage the projects in these programmes
Make sure we can adapt to our changing climate by making communities more resilient and able to adapt to the challenges
We welcome applications from talented and enthusiastic people from all backgrounds to join the RFCCs. You do not usually need formal qualifications for most of these roles, though knowledge of certain specialities can help in some cases. It’s your enthusiasm and commitment to your local community that is most important.
These are not paid roles, but they are an amazing opportunity to get involved with issues that really matter, gain new skills and experience, and build your network. We do cover reasonable out-of-pocket expenses and time off work. You’ll need to be able to join four meetings a year and prepare by reading papers in advance.
