At the Interchange conference in Manchester this week, Accelar Limited announced the launch of acra, a new climate risk assessment software platform designed to provide infrastructure and asset owners with the ability to understand, manage and adapt to climate change risk.
The recently released Seventh Carbon Budget report from the Climate Change Committee highlights the importance of adaptation, including that ‘Further climate change is inevitable. This means that further changes in UK weather and climate extremes will occur and need to be planned for’. It also states that ‘rapid action on mitigation and adaptation can reduce projected losses and damage.’
After delivering successful climate change vulnerability and risk assessments for infrastructure clients that cover around a third of England’s entire landmass, Accelar decided there must be a more powerful and intelligent way. By joining forces with Simanalytica and using their trademarked Compass:Engine, the team was able to create a platform that is underpinned by climate expert methodology and the power of technology. The technology has already been utilised successfully through a Proof of Concept innovation project with a major infrastructure provider.
“This is an exciting launch and we saw real interest in the product at Interchange. Having undertaken numerous climate vulnerability assessments for infrastructure clients, it is clear that acra will deliver genuine value to the sector and meet current and future needs.
Charlene Caten, Accelar’s co-founder
Our climate has changed and we need to make sure vulnerabilities across networks can be identified and adaptation is managed accordingly. The powerful and intelligent platform provides fast results, they can be interrogated and used to inform significant financial savings in asset planning and management.”
