POD Point to provide free electric car charging at home and workplace

Electric and hybrid vehicle charging company POD Point is offering free home and workplace charging units to electric and hybrid vehicle owners in three English regions.

POD Point has teamed up with Source East and Plugged-in Midlands to offer its ‘Solo 2’ charge point package free to electric and hybrid vehicle drivers in East Anglia, the East and West Midlands. The offer is being provided through a grant under the Government’s Plugged-In Places scheme.

POD Point said its ‘Solo 2’ package offered the latest ‘smart’ charge point technology including built-in GPRS with three years of data. The technology enables two-way communication between the charge point and an online account. EV drivers are provided with a free online account where they can view energy use, remotely lock the charge point and set charge schedules.

The free charge points and installation are worth over £1000 and also includes a free site survey, POD Point said.

The offer is available to electric and hybrid vehicle owners in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Essex, Herefordshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Telford & Wrekin, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Worcestershire.

POD Point said electric and plug-in car owners living within the M25 are also eligible for a free charging unit under a different scheme being offered in partnership with UK Power Networks called the Low Carbon London electric vehicle usage trial.
