Rural Energy And Community Heat (REACH): An innovation project for rural communities

Regen has been funded to work with National Grid Electricity Distribution via the Strategic Innovation Fund. They are looking to work with rural communities to explore their net zero challenges and identify opportunities to implement low carbon projects within their local areas.

Rural Energy And Community Heat (REACH) project with National Grid Electricity Distribution.

REACH is an exciting opportunity for rural communities in the South West, South Wales and the Midlands!

Regen is working with National Grid Electricity Distribution on an innovation project focused on the decarbonisation of rural areas. The project has been funded by network users and consumers under the Strategic Innovation Fund, an Ofgem programme managed in partnership with UKRI.

Their goal is to find 5 – 10 rural communities to work with over the next 2 months to co-create innovative approaches for meeting the local area’s decarbonisation ambitions. These will then be taken forward into a second round of project funding to support feasibility studies.

Rural areas face unique challenges on their decarbonisation journey, including electricity network constraints. This project is looking at novel and innovative solutions for how rural areas can achieve their decarbonisation objectives, particularly when a electricity network constraints are a barrier.

If your organisation represents a rural community that is interested in developing low carbon projects, including renewable generation, EV charging, energy storage, or low carbon heat, then Regen want to hear from you!
