Visitors to Malvern Park can look forward to seeing a new flowerbed take centre stage next spring, designed by local school children. As Great Big Green Week gets underway this week, Love Solihull is launching a competition open to all schools in the borough to design the flagship flowerbed.
This year’s theme is ‘Your Future Solihull’, the Council’s recently launched climate change and sustainability campaign. The chosen display will showcase elements of what a sustainable Solihull could look like in the future. Entrants are being encouraged to raise awareness on a number of themes, including climate change, environment, future transport and recycling.
The winning design can not only take satisfaction from their display being seen by thousands of passers-by in Malvern Park, but they’ll also receive £100 worth of gift vouchers for their school and receive a Love Solihull goodie bag. The competition is open until Friday 16 December 2022 and you can expect to see the flowerbed itself taking pride of place in the park next year.
All schools are being contacted over the coming weeks with further details and how they can enter the competition. However if there are any further questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.Councillor Ken Hawkins, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment and Infrastructure, said:
“It’s wonderful to see our flowerbed competition returning for another year as I know how popular the displays have been in the past. I’m looking forward to seeing the creativity and imagination of the designs, helping us all to visualise what a more sustainable and eco-friendly Solihull could look like. This year’s theme of ‘Your Future Solihull’ is particularly apt as we’re now implementing our plan for Solihull to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2041. Good luck to all those entering the competition.”
