Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust win ‘Travel and Transport’ category at 2017 NHS Sustainability Awards

This years NHS Sustainability Awards took place on 17 May and was attended by over 160 guests from across the NHS and wider Public Health field. SWM would like to congratulate The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust on winning the Travel and Transport category award, sponsored by Sustrans. In partnership with two local authorities, the Trust appointed a Sustainable Travel Plan coordinator who has undertaken several successful initiatives to encourage sustainable travel to work. Following a site audit and staff consultation, four locations at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital were chosen for cycle parking improvement, allowing staff to park as close to their particular workplace as possible. The bicycle user group was rebranded and has seen a growth in membership from 6 staff to almost 200. The Trust write: “It is rewarding to see cyclists using them [cycle shelters] within the Trust’s built environment, reducing the carbon footprint and being an enabler to healthier staff.”
