SWM’s first charity event surpassed our expectations in ways we could not imagine! A huge and heartfelt ‘Thank You!’ from all of us for the support you have shown our chosen cause, ‘Dementia’, through the Alzheimer’s Society. We have smashed our target and have raised nearly £2,000, thanks to your generosity. It was the second hottest day this year and our appreciation of water grew with every step but, we did it. The day was filled with organic core team bonding chats from the beginning; we were in it together no matter what. There is something quite levelling about you and your work colleagues covered in sweat and dust for the sake of such an amazing cause. We were all proud of each other and you could feel it through the blistering heat. The SWM team were glad to hear the white noise of finishers floating up the last steep hill we went down by mile twelve. That meant we were near end and at the very least, could take our shoes off. We grabbed our green ‘13-Mile Finished’ medals and melted into the shady grass. We were all smiles and dehydrated (and bad knees!), but buzzing that we had achieved it. Sure, we may have hurt the next day (or three), but we are fortunate to be able to contribute to the work of the Alzheimer’s Society and their vital research, whilst we have our health.
