Sustrans are offering training sessions to those who enjoy walking or cycling to equip them with skills which will allow them to inspire others to make more of their everyday journeys on foot or by bike. The project will allow ‘Active Travel Champions’ to make a real difference; making people happier and healthier whilst contributing to the improvement of the local environment.
Active Travel Champions are volunteers trained to spread the word about the benefits of walking & cycling. People can volunteer within their workplace, community or school. Champions will be able to provide advice and information through talks, presentations and information displays, and will set up opportunities to walk and cycle through organising group walks or rides and promoting events. Sustrans will provide: training, information materials, resources for displays and presentations, support from a volunteer co-ordinator, access to the champions’ website and monitoring and evaluation of activities.
The training is split into two 2.5hr sessions. It can take place at the Sustrans office or at your location if you have four Champions or more. All Champions must undertake the induction training session, which can then be supplemented with three optional extra training sessions.
