A couple of years ago, SWM decided that like many Boards ours was dominated by an older age group and we could really do with an injection of youth to challenge us and bring a fresh perspective. We also saw it as a great development opportunity (in the real sense) for a young person, for a year or two, to gain some experience as a young leader and add something positive to their CV. We advertised the Young Director post widely and it attracted a lot of interest from a very high-calibre group of young people from the public, private and voluntary sectors, as well as students. Those who were selected for interview were all enthusiastic and knowledgeable about sustainability issues and presented us with a real dilemma when it came to selecting just one. But we did decide and gave a big welcome to Ruth Corrall, a Project Officer at Worcester City Council. Watch our video to hear from Ruth about her experience and from her Board mentor, Alan Taylor, on the benefits of having a Young Director in your organisation. https://youtu.be/cSwK8O0tl14
